The Heart of Salsa Brava in Quebec
When Daniel and Nicole (Los Pachangueros) arrived in Quebec five years ago, we brought suitcases full of dreams and, above all, a desire to dance. However, night after night, visiting the city's "Latin parties", we felt something didn't fit.
We found strange musical selections, full of artificial mixes and reggaeton fusions that had little to do with the true Latin essence. We missed the power of the greats: the elegance of Joe Arroyo, the punch of Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz, the clave of Fania All-Stars, or the feeling of Héctor Lavoe. What we heard on local dance floors didn't reflect the history running through our veins.
In 2025, we opened our Caleña salsa classes at Imperio Studio. There, we didn't just teach steps; we set ourselves a mission: to educate the ear. We wanted our students to know the historic orchestras and singers that seemed forgotten in this city.
In the summer of that same year, we decided to take a risk. We organized the first "Caleña Salsa Night" at Imperio, under a simple but radical promise: here, only the classics play.
What happened that night changed our vision of the community in Quebec. The studio filled with Latinos who, with emotion in their eyes, told us the same thing: "I've been here 10, 15 years, and this is the first time I hear real salsa, good dancing salsa".
